Public relations as relates to library function and programming:
The Annie Porter Ainsworth Memorial Library seeks to promote active participation in the varied services offered by the library to people of all ages by promoting a good understanding of the Library’s objectives and services among governing officials, civic leaders, and the general public.
The Board recognizes that public relations involve every person who has a connection with the library. The Board urges its own members and every staff member to realize that he or she represents the library in every public contact. Good service supports good public relations.
The director will be expected to make presentations and to participate in community activities to promote library services. A reasonable amount of library time will be allowed for preparation and speaking. Materials to be used by the press, radio, or television will be approved by the director.
Public relations as relates to crisis intervention:
No staff, Board, or volunteer member is to speak to the public until the Board has met. The Board may determine a spokesperson for the library at that time. The spokesperson would then release a statement to the public. The staff, Board, and volunteers must present themselves as a unified body in all situations and in support of the library.
